Friday Update – 17th February 2023

Another week has flown by! Where is this year going?

I hope everything has been good for you. Here’s your behind-the-scenes glimpse at my work this week!

That was the week that was!

Tuesday was all about Project: Monster, the animated movie pitch I made with my pal, Olly. We presented the story in a meeting that couldn’t have gone better. Can’t say much more about it, other than thanks to everyone who sent me well wishes on Instagram!

The rest of the working week saw me continue writing Project: Protect, my spec pilot script, which is up to 43 pages now.

I say working week as I ACTUALLY TOOK SOME TIME OFF!

Sorry. Didn’t mean to shout. It’s just that I’m not always very good at vacation time, but succeeded for once. High Five!

Wednesday, we headed up to London to take our eldest to see Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre which was spectacular, Earl Carpenter returning as the Phantom with new staging by Cameron Mackintosh. And yes, I couldn’t help but think of the graphic novel adaptation I created with José Maria Beroy a few years back for Titan Comics I’m still very proud of the final book (which you can catch a preview of here!)

Things I love and think you might too!

I finally got around to listening to Tom Baker narrate Doctor Who – Scratchman which has been languishing in my Audible library for what seems like an eternity! What a mistake to make! I loved every wonderful, whimsical moment, especially as James Goss – who wrote the novel with the great man himself – followed Tom’s suggestion to have the Fourth Doctor relate the story in the first person. This breaks the unwritten rule that you never see things from the Doctor’s POV, but hey… Tom Baker is literally who on Earth! Who else could get away with it?

I can see myself returning to this one again… if only to hear Mr. Baker’s infectious laugh!

Things you might have missed!

  • This Week in Star Wars announced my next Star Wars Halloween special – Tales From the Death Star. This will be a day long remembered!

Since the announcement, which you can see below, we’ve also revealed the list of artists for the collection. They are, in no particular order:

    – Soo Lee.
    – Juan Samu.
    – Ingo Roemling.
    – Fico Ossio.
    – Vincenzo Riccardi.

What a line-up! I’ve worked with Juan, Fico and Vincenzo before on Transformer / Back to the Future, Hawkman & Hawkwoman and The Dracula Files respectively, and this is my first time collaborating with Ingo (who I met at Noris Force Con in Germany last year) and Soo!

Juan, of course, also contributed art for a story in last year’s Tales from the Rancor’s Pit.

More details to come soon, but in the meantime, you can read the blurb here and check out the original reveal below.

That’s all for this week. I’m going to be tied up next Friday unfortunately, so won’t be able to send an update, but should be able to explain all in two weeks’ time!

Until then, stay safe!
