Cav Reads: Tales From the Haunted Mansion Vol III

I love the Haunted Mansion. It’s probably no surprise that a haunted house full of silly spooks would be my favourite Disney ride. With that in mind, I’ve been keeping this fun little book aside for halloween.

In fact, I’m listening to the Walt Disney World CD as I type…

I haven’t read the first two volumes… yet… but was pleasantly surprised by the trio of tales found inside those rather splendid covers.

While they’re squarely aimed at middle-grade readers, Amicus Arcane’s stories (ghoulishly translated by John Esposito) are marvellously macabre, full of gallows humour and at times fiendishly blood-thirsty.

You’ll find a haunted piano, a tanis-fuelled mummy and a coven of cannibalistic witches, all illustrated by the glorious Kelley Jones (who has recently turned his hand to another halloween-inspired treat).

It’s all wonderfully classic, and an obvious love-letter to the Amicus portmanteau movies of the 70s (seriously, the name’s a bit of a giveaway!)

Perfect for children young and old who like reading to the knell of a requiem bell…

Sounds Terrifying!
