That was the Bristolcon Fringe that was…

And so I’m on the bus, chugging home after the Bristolcon Fringe. I shared the mic with Justin Newland, who presented three beautiful lyrical tales of desert tribes, Sir Walter Raleigh’s final days and the fate of Atlantis.

Then, there was me, with tales of superheroes having fights in the Cabot Circus shopping centre in Bristol and schoolboys with psychotic imaginary friends. Talk about from the sublime to the ridiculous. I’ll leave you to make up your mind which one was which.

The extracts – one from my current YA work in progress, plus the beginning of Billy Button, out next week from Badger Learning, blatant plug fans – seemed to go down well and gave me a chance to wibble on about comic books and superheroes as well as writing prose, which is always a plus.

To top the evening off, Cheryl Morgan told me that at the end that someone is already looking forward to the movie of the YA – although it may have something to do with the fact that I destroy a certain modern Bristol landmark in the opening chapters. Either way, no pressure then. I’d better get it finished…

Thanks to Cheryl for hosting, the Bristolcon crew for making it happen and my co-reader, Justin.
