It’s pretty much a week since San Diego Comic Con 2017 and I’m almost feeling human again. Almost.
Since landing back in the UK on Tuesday, my state of being has mainly been summed up by this gif…
So apologies for a lack of con reports, but here we go. I thought I’d share some of my favourite memories and photos.
Once again, I was travelling with my good buddy, George Mann. Of course, we had to pose for a quick selfie before getting on the plane….
We think we look cool. Just humour us.
Arriving with a day to spare, we headed to Union Station to check out the San Diego Comic Art Gallery, which I can’t recommend enough. There’s a Walt Simonson exhibition at the moment which is all kinds of awesome.
The Transformers fan in me was also incredibly impressed with this awesome Bumblebee transformation sculpture (forgive the shaky GIF I produced on the fly…)
My visit to the gallery even inspired me to have my own go at comic art…
But as you can see by the results, I should probably stick to the day job…
Much browsing and shopping later, we headed to the convention centre for Preview Night and this was pretty much the first thing I saw…
The biggest Star Wars Adventures poster I’ve ever seen, stretched the length of the IDW booth.
In fact, pointing at things I’ve written for became a bit of a pastime, from Star Wars From A Certain Point of View…
…to the SDCC exclusive comic I scripted for History Channel to promote their new Templar TV show, Knightfall (with art by the great Neil Edwards)…
I also found time to play the fool with props. Who knew Mjolnir would make such a mighty karaoke mic?
Ahem.
Anyway, soon we were into the main programme. My first panel was as part of a gathering of top notch Lucasfilm Publishing creators, including Christian Blauvelt (Star Wars Made Easy), Cullen Bunn (Star Wars: Darth Maul), Christie Golden (Battlefront II: Inferno Squad), Claudia Gray (Leia: Princess of Alderaan), Jarrett J. Krosoczka (Star Wars: Jedi Academy: The Force Oversleeps), me, Beth Revis (Star Wars: Rebel Rising), and Landry Walker (Star Wars Adventures).

A few hours later, I was back on stage talking about Star Wars Adventures with editor Denton Tipton and artist Derek Charm on the IDW comics panel…
This one will go down in history for the moment where Denton and I had to sing the Star Wars theme as the AV had glitched at just the wrong moment.
Saturday was all about Doctor Who with an appearance on the Titan Doctor Who and Torchwood panel alongside editor Andrew James, George Mann, Nick Abadzis, and Richard Dinnick. Earlier that day, George, Nick and I had already been busy signing Doctor Who on the Titan stall…
Sunday, I was signing again, but this time LEGO DC Super Heroes: The Awesome Guide on behalf of DK, before running around seeing the people that I hadn’t manage to grab yet.
And so ended four manic days. These few snaps only scratch the surface. In between these moments came the usual catch-ups, parties, laughs and late nights in the Hyatt bars. And more posing with George…
It is work… honest…
But before I go, the only other moment I feel I should mention was meeting an absolute legend, a lady who left me in complete and utter awe…
