School visits

At the beginning of the year I set myself targets for 2012, one of which was to make a least one school visit.

I met that goal in February, visiting year five at Hanham Abbots Junior School in Bristol. As part of their Doctor Who From Script to Screen project, I gave a talk about how I became a writer, how I was influenced by Who as a child and then led workshops focusing on creating believable characters (especially of the monster variety!)

It was a great day and I could help but be struck by the sheer enthusiasm of the kids. I was especially pleased when the teachers told me of one reluctant reader who had been inspired to pick up a book by my visit.

I’ve been working on some more workshops and sessions for the new school year. If you’re interested in having me come to your school then please visit my new entry on the Start the Story Author’s Directory. You’ll be able to find out more of what I can offer your school or library.
