Cavan is so excited for you to read the latest issue, and had this to say:

This is the idea that sparked off the entire mini-series. Micheal Siglain and I are rabid Hammer Horror fans and had often suggested the idea of turning Peter Cushing’s Moff Tarkin into the Empire’s very own Baron Frankenstein. It was a story we hadn’t been able to get into the original Tales From Vader’s Castle series, so pushed for a sequel. We also knew we wanted comic legend (and gothic horror fan) Kelley Jones to draw the issue. Kelley leapt at the idea and the pages are truly special, especially when you add Michelle Madsen’s incredible colours to the mix.

As for the creature itself, well, I knew I wanted a patchwork monster made up of different aliens and started making a list of potential body-parts. As anyone who knows me is all too painfully aware, I’m also an obsessive Doctor Who fan. One of my favourite serials is the Tom Baker classic, The Brain of Morbius, which sees everyone’s favourite Time Lord facing a Gallifreyan Frankenstein monster. In the show, Morbius’s brain is implanted in a stitched-together monster which has a huge claw as one of its hands. It only seemed fitting, therefore, that Tarkin’s monster had a Nephran claw, as made famous by Solo‘s Therm Scissorpunch
