Counter-Measures Series 2

Counter-Measures Series 2, coming in 2013 from Big Finish Productions

A couple of days ago I blogged about a flurry of announcements that would be coming soon. The first one was made today. Doctor Who Magazine issue 455 has landed on subscribers’ doormat with lots of exiting news about this year’s Christmas special. Fa-la-la-la-laaaaaa.

There’s also a report on page 19 about the second series of Counter-Measures from Big Finish Productions. I’m very pleased to say that the box set, out in July, features a story by Mark Wright and me. Peshka is a tale of intrigue, subterfuge and check mate.

Writing for Counter-Measures was a real treat. For those who don’t know, the characters first appeared in the 1988 Doctor Who story, Remembrance of the Daleks by  Ben Aaronovitch. Last year, Big Finish spun them into their own series, fighting alien threats in 1960s Britain.

Even though I’d watched Doctor Who for years, it was Remembrance that made me a fan. I watched it over and over again and was fascinated by all the references to Doctor Who‘s past. Before too long I was trying to find out more about that past, sending off for fanzines and started seriously collecting Who books rather than just borrowing them from the library. I joined the Doctor Who Appreciation Society and soon began writing for the fanzines I was buying, first articles and then fan-fiction. That fan-fiction led to me wanting to write professionally and the rest, as they say…

Writing for the Counter-Measures team with Mark seems like coming full circle. I can honestly say its one of the most exciting projects I’ve been involved with over the last few years. I just can’t wait to hear it now, along with the other stories in the box set – Manhunt by Matt Fitton, The Fifth Citadel by James Goss and Sins of the Father by John Dorney. Counter-Measures series 2 is out in July 2013 and available to pre-order now.

Keep checking back for more announcements. It’s been a very busy year, both working with Mark and on my own. I spent yesterday up in London, flitting between meetings, and by the looks of it, 2013 is going to be even more hectic. I can’t wait.
