Over on Facebook, my old mucker Paul McGuinness has asked me: “Why was the Beano‘s Baby Face Finlayson called Baby Face Finlayson? I get the Baby Face bit, but the Finlayson part has bugged me for some decades now…”
Well, for years many people thought that the cutest bandit of them all was named after 1930’s bank robber Baby Face Nelson, but according to former Beano editor Euan Kerr that’s not true. The terrible toddler is in fact based on someone Euan knew at school, a lad who with the nickname of, you’ve guessed it, Baby Face Finlayson.
