Released today: Colin Salmon and Stephen Fry star in Hounds of the Baskervilles

Audible UK have dropped a surprise podcast today, a full-cast adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Hounds of the Baskervilles, adapted for audio by myself and George Mann.

Starring Colin Salmon as the Great Detective and Stephen Fry as the redoubtable John Watson, our new version of the classic tale is produced and directed by David Beck for Wireless Theatre and was recorded in June this year at Soundhouse Studios in London.

In adapting the story, we tried our hardest to remain true to the original novel, while adding a little sprinkle of folk horror along the way, including the introduction of a new character, Old Mother Greep played with relish by Meera Syal.

Split over six episodes, The Hound of the Baskervilles is available to download now, exclusively for Audible subscribers and I’m so excited for you to hear it.

Here’s the official blurb and full cast list:

Colin Salmon and Stephen Fry star in this brand new adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic Sherlock Holmes adventure, The Hound of the Baskervilles, reinterpreted as a dark folk horror by best-selling authors George Mann and Cavan Scott.

An ancient curse has awoken on Dartmoor, the members of the Baskerville family hunted by a spectral hound of Hell. With Sherlock Holmes busy in London, Doctor John Watson is sent to protect the new lord of the manor as fear and superstition run wild in the ancient countryside. Can Watson overcome his own terror to discover the truth behind the legend before the hound strikes again?
