The Bristol Festival of Literature is on its way, and I’m involved in two amazing events.
40 Years of Thrill Power
First up is a celebration of the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic, 2000AD. I’m stepping into the moderator’s chair for a conversation with Rob Williams, Dave Kendall and Lee Carter.

British comics changed forever with the launch in 1977 of the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic. 40 years later, the Bristol Festival of Literature gives you the chance to delve beneath 2000AD’s legendary Nerve Centre.
Writer Rob Williams (Judge Dredd, Low Life), and artists Dave Kendall (Dreams of Deadworld) and Lee Carter (Judge Dredd, Necrophim) reveal secrets bursting with Thrill Power. What makes a good 2000AD story? What is it really like to work with Tharg the Mighty? And is Mega City One now a little too close for comfort.
Moderated by Cavan Scott (Judge Dredd: Alternative Facts), this Zarjaz event will also include a creator Q&A and signing.
Tickets for 40 Years of Thrill Power takes place on Saturday 21st October at 4pm at Bristol Central Library, and tickets are on sale now.
Crime in the Caves
The second event could be one of the coolest things I’ve ever been involved with.
Crime in the Caves takes place in Bristol’s historic Redcliffe caves, and will see me, Sanjida Kay, CJ Taylor, AA Abbott, Jason Goodwin and Amy Morse reading extracts of our crime fiction by torchlight in the depths.
I’ll be reading from my new Sherlock Holmes novel, Cry of the Innocents, and tickets are now on sale. The event itself takes place on 26th October at 7pm.
As the website says, ‘bring a chair, a torch, strong nerves and stronger bladders for an umissable evening of crime in Redcliffe caves.’
