When I was little, one of the highlights of Christmas day was seeing two book-sized presents wrapped beneath the tree. They could only mean two things – the Beano and Dandy annuals!
So, I am chuffed to little bits that this year’s annuals both feature scripts by me! Now prepare yourself for some photos of the books on my living room floor, the place I traditionally read the annuals when I was a kid.
In the 2016 Beano Annual you’ll find three Bananaman strips written by me, with wonderful art by Andy James. Mr B and Crow face Bubblegum Bert, General Blight, Doctor Gloom and Witchy Woman!
Elsewhere, there’s four Minnie the Minx strips with words by me and art by Nigel Parkinson. Minnie goes to a girlie sleepover, becomes a bridesmaid, attracts the wrath of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Beanotown Dads and attempts to become Sir Alan Lord Sugar’s Apprentice.
Meanwhile, over in the 2016 Dandy Annual, you’ll find five Korky the Cat strips written by yours truly with Mike Donaldson providing brilliantly traditional Korky art. Korky has to deal with ice-cream-napping pigeons, tries to get his troublesome nephews into the bath, gets into trouble mowing the lawn, goes fishing, and makes fish-paste and pilchard gateau.
Finally, I turn my hand to two Brassneck strips, with Steve Beckett on art duties. The robot schoolboy causes chaos trying to get his friend Charlie to hospital, and turns detective as Sherlock Chromes as he attempts to find his missing hand. I also provided a Sherlock Chromes whodunit puzzle for readers to solve!
Hopefully, kids (and probably a fair few adults) all over the country will be waking up to these beauties next Friday.
