Ten years ago, Doctor Who returned to British television, with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose and a decade later it’s stronger than ever. Fantastic!

I still remember 26th March 2005. Going to see Bristol City play in the afternoon and not being able to concentrate on the game because I knew the episode was that evening! I’d avoided as many spoilers as I could, so that it was completely fresh. And then the build-up when we got home, watching the documentary before hand and then the show itself – and immediately phoning Mark Wright to discuss it when the end credits rolled!

A lot has happened for me in the last ten years. I got married, moved back to Bristol, had my wonderful children, changed jobs, closed mags, launched mags, and went freelance. It’s amazing how events from real life spring back to mind when you go back and watch episodes, depending on what you were doing when you first saw them. Going on my stag do. Bringing my eldest daughter home. Family Christmas celebrations. Going to conventions. Having friends come to stay.

It’s not secret that I love the series. For good reason too, it’s given me brilliant friends and great memories, both on screen and off.

It’s also given me some amazing experience over the last ten years. Working with Mark on Who-ology, Wit, Wisdom and Timey Wimey Stuff and The Night of the Whisper. Writing comic strips for Doctor Who Adventures. Interviewing Russell T. Davies, Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter for Doctor Who Magazine, taking part in the 50th Anniversary Celebration at Excel, discussing Peter Capaldi with Sophie Aldred on BBC Breakfast, and, most recently, writing the Ninth Doctor miniseries for Titan Comics. I am eternally grateful for each and every one.

So happy rebirthday Doctor Who and thank you!

Here’s to the next ten years and beyond!
