What do you find scarier in horror stories: inhuman monsters or monstrous humans?
Generally monstrous humans because you’re more likely to encounter them in real life.
What scary movie, book or comic do you think every horror fan should experience?
That’s a tough one. There’s so much to choose from. I’ll go with The Haunting (1963) movie and the book it was based on (The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson). It’s a classic piece of gothic horror with a lot going on beneath the surface. It’s definitely influenced a lot of other horror too.
Tell me something cool about In the Hole.
It deals with a common situation that many people can relate to and will find stressful, but then it begins to takes an unusual turn…
What’s your top tip for creating a scary story?
I think the best horror always has something real in it, something normal or grounding so the audience gets lulled in to a sense of the familiar. You can build anything from there.
