Announcing Blood of Camelot

Exciting news!

Today Farside Features, the animation studio behind Warhammer 40,000: Hammer and Bolter, announced a new adult animation drama series that they have developed with Strange Matter, the creative studio I own with George Mann.

Blood of Camelot is an exciting animated series that asks one simple question: What if King Arthur was a vampire?

In the show, a desperate Arthur making a terrible choice to protect his kingdom, a decision that splits the Knights of the Roundtable and corrupts the dream of Camelot forever.

As the realm falls to both creeping blight and vampiric knights, only Guinevere and Lancelot can save the king from himself and restore Camelot to its former glory.

Along the way the duo will face vicious monsters, sinister blood magic and betrayal from those they trust most, all while fighting the forbidden love that is slowly, but surely blossoming between them.

I can’t wait for people to see what we’ve been working on. From witches and twisted folklore to blood-crazed revenants and ferocious dragons, Blood of Camelot is the perfect distillation of everything I love – the darkest of dark fantasy mixed with heartbreaking romance.

With work underway on the pilot, our next step is to take the show out to networks in order to find it a home. Best of all, this is just the first of a slate of new shows Farside Features and Strange Matter are developing together.

I’ll post more when I can, but in the meantime here is the full press release direct from Farside Features website plus our amazing poster!

FARSIDE FEATURES AND STRANGE MATTER MEDIA LTD PARTNER
TO CREATE NEW SLATE OF ANIMATED SHOWS
Arthurian-inspired horror series for adult market already in development

BRISTOL, UNITED KINGDOM – 31st March 2022: Farside Features have partnered with Strange Matter Media Ltd to develop and produce a slate of animated series for the adult market. Their first project is BLOOD OF CAMELOT, a dark fantasy that reimagines King Arthur as a vampire despot ruling over a blighted realm.

Blood of Camelot sees King Arthur making a terrible choice to protect his kingdom, a decision that splits the knights of the roundtable and corrupts the dream of Camelot. As the realm falls prey to vicious monsters and vampiric knights, only Guinevere and Arthur’s former champion Lancelot can save the king from himself.

With work on the pilot underway, the team is looking to place the series with a network during 2022.

Farside Features’ Creative Director Dylan Shipley says: “We’re incredibly excited to be developing Blood of Camelot with Strange Matter Media. This is a dream project for us, as myself and many here grew up on a strict diet of anime and comic books. Since starting out in animation, it’s been my goal to push the industry here in the UK and start focusing on more adult animated content. Blood of Camelot is such an exciting project for Farside Features, our very own animated series built from the ground up which is already shaping into something amazing.“

Strange Matter’s joint CEO and Sunday Times bestselling author George Mann says: “Blood of Camelot combines our mutual love of folklore, mythology and horror. Farside Features are the ideal partner to bring the show’s sweeping action and emotional depth to life, giving familiar characters an unexpected and often brutal twist.”

Strange Matter’s joint CEO and New York Times bestselling author Cavan Scott adds: “The early visuals are nothing short of extraordinary. The story we’re crafting alongside Dylan and the team at Farside Features is truly epic in scope, while never losing sight of the very human story at the heart of the Arthurian mythos.”
