An Unconventional Launch

UnconventionalI’ve just got back from Waterstones in Bath where Maggie Harcourt launched her new novel, Unconventional.

It’s a geeky YA romance, so not exactly my usual reading matter, but a) Maggie’s brilliant and b) the novel’s about a convention organiser which is something that is close to my heart.

Here’s the blurb:

Lexi Angelo has grown up helping her dad with his events business. She likes to stay behind the scenes, planning and organizing…until author Aidan Green – messy haired and annoyingly arrogant – arrives unannounced at the first event of the year. Then Lexi’s life is thrown into disarray.

In a flurry of late-night conversations, mixed messages and butterflies, Lexi discovers that some things can’t be planned. Things like falling in love…

Maggie was as hilarious as ever, and had us all in stitches. She talked candidly about writing, describing how developing an exciting idea into a novel is like catching a beautiful butterfly, gazing at its glorious colours and then hammering it into a page with a dirty great mallet. I know that feeling.

Maggie reads from Unconventional

Unconventional is interesting as it features a book within a book, the main character Lexi obsessed about a fantasy novel by the name of Piecekeepers. Maggie has written an extract, which she read at the end of her interview. Needless to say it was great. Now I want Maggie to write the entire book! No pressure!

Unconventional is available now from all good bookstores, including, of course, Waterstones. I can’t wait to dive in!
